Worship Through Our Music Ministry

Music at First: Join a Choir!

First Presbyterian offers music opportunities for children, youth, and adults to enhance their musical skills while contributing to the life of the church and its worship. Developing musical skills will enable children, youth, and adults to glorify God in song their entire lives.
Children’s Choir: Ages 3 (By Sept. 1) through 2nd graders rehearse Wednesdays, 5:30-6:00 pm.

Young children will learn solfege, learn to produce a beautiful singing tone quality and to match pitches. They will learn to read music rhythms and to play rhythm and Orff instruments. Songs will be age appropriate to the young child’s developing spiritual awareness. Sharing songs in worship several times a year will give the young child a way to sing to God’s glory in joyful and sincere praise.

Junior Choir: 3rd-5th Graders rehearse Sundays, 6:30-7:00 pm.

The older elementary-school aged children will learn more advanced solfege and will learn to read melodic intervals as well as increasingly complex rhythms. They will learn to sing in parts using partner songs, rounds, and simple 2-part music. They will sing songs with scriptural basis, providing supplemental avenues to explore God’s word. They will frequently share their songs in worship, learning to become worship leaders.

Youth Choir: 6th-12th Graders rehearse Sundays, 6:00-6:30 pm.

Youth will learn to read melodic lines, will learn to sing in 2-4 parts, and to produce a blended choral sound. Songs with themes that tie into the youth curriculum will enable youth to sing their faith. Along with learning to sing in parts comes a fellowship component of making music together to God’s glory in community with others.

Chancel Choir:Adults rehearse Wednesday evenings, 7:30-9:00 pm.

The chancel choir prepares music to sing during each Sunday service and other special services throughout the year. Once a year they will offer a major choral work in concert format. They enjoy a sense of fellowship in common purpose to sing to God’s glory as they lead our congregational song.

Youth Bell Choir: Rehearses on Sundays at 5:00 pm.

Youth will learn to read bell music and learn bell ringing techniques. They will share their music in worship several times a year.

First Ringers Bell Choir: Adults and more advanced youth ringers meet Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 pm.

They will frequently provide bell music in worship, presenting preludes, offertories, and choral accompaniments.
